Nurse sentenced to prison after ignoring child’s low oxygen alarms more than 100 times
FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A former in-home nurse will spend two-and-a-half years in prison after being sentenced in Florida in connection with a child neglect case.
“I am sorry I didn’t go wake up mom or dad and tell them or give him oxygen when it went below normal several times,” Sharlene Pflugrad said.
Oxygen levels dropped repeatedly
Prosecutors said that during an overnight shift in September of last year, Lucas’ oxygen level dropped to 79%. Surveillance video of that night was played in court.
The boy’s care plan required oxygen when his level fell below 88%, along with notifying his parents, the agency Pflugrad worked for and 911 when necessary.
